Join the Tāhuna Glenorchy Dark Skies Team as they share their light-hearted and inspiring journey, from zero astronomy knowledge to global recognition.
In February of 2025, Tāhuna Glenorchy was named the 4th International Dark Sky Sanctuary in Aotearoa New Zealand and the 23rd in the World. Now, the team is ready to share their story.
In this talk, the Tāhuna Glenorchy Dark Skies team take you on their journey of adventure, discovery, new learnings, awesome biodiversity work (and spectacularly bad curling) to share how they got that designation while knowing next to nothing about astronomy! For those who are interested in the Dark Skies or hope to create some Dark Sky places of your own, do come along and hear from Tāhuna Glenorchy’s Starwalkers.
As Matariki invites us to reflect, celebrate, and look to the skies, this event offers a timely opportunity to connect with the night and the stories it holds.
Nau mai, haere mai – everyone is welcome! As space is limited, please RSVP to secure your spot.
This event is taking place at The Rees Hotel, 377 Frankton Road.
This event is proudly brought to you by Queenstown Lakes Libraries, with special thanks to The Rees Hotel for their ongoing support of our community.
