Who can join

If you are living in or paying rates in the Central Otago or Queenstown Lakes District for more than three months

You can sign up for a permanent membership which allows you to borrow up to 50 items, or a digital membership.

If you are visiting and will be here three months or less

You can sign up for a temporary membership which allows you to borrow up to four items.

If you are a member of another New Zealand library

You can sign up for a reciprocal membership which allows you to borrow up to 10 items.

If you are a resident of the Otago or Southland regions (Waitaki District, Clutha District, Gore District, Southland District or Invercargill City)

You can sign up for a permanent or a digital membership.

If you are a school teacher in the Central Otago or Queenstown Lakes District

You can sign up for a school teacher membership which allows you to borrow up to 50 items for educational use at your school.

If you are a school student in the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes District and you parent or guardian is not a library member

You can sign up for a school pupil membership which allows you to borrow up to two items.

What you need to join

Proof of address

To issue your library card you will need to show proof of your address. This could be a rental/housemate agreement, an employment contract or a pay slip, a bank statement, a utilities bill, or any other document that shows your address. 

 

We don't need a printed copy, it's fine to show it to us on your phone when you are in the library.

Photo identification

You will also need to show us photo identification. This can be a driver's license, passport, or an ID card. 

 

If you are a school teacher, you will need to show us proof of your employment at your educational institution.

On applying to be a member on behalf of yourself or a child/dependent you will be accepting our Membership Terms & Conditions.

Borrow and request items

Your library card allows you to borrow and request physical items from throughout the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes District. Our Library Location page has all the libraries you have access to.

Access the eLibrary

Access our range of online library resources, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, online databases, eMagazines, eNewspapers, films and documentaries, and more. Head to our Borrow page to access everything.

Request items from across Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally

If we don't have an item in our collection, you can request to borrow from libraries across Aotearoa New Zealand or internationally via our Interlibrary Loan service.

Use our click and collect or home delivery services

If you want a contactless way to borrow books, you can order a bag of books via our Click and Collect service. Alternatively, if you can't make it to the library, some of our branches offer a Home Delivery Service.
