Have you discovered the 'Lists' feature on your Library Account or the Library App?

This is a great feature if you regularly see something you want to read and want to make a note of it but aren't ready to put a hold on the item yet.

The feature allows you to find the item you're after and add it to a list for future reference. You can create custom lists too (for example themed lists based on genres or ideas for your book club)!

Some considerations to note:

  • You must be logged in to your Library Account or the Library App for the list feature to work. If you are not logged in, any items added to the 'temporary list' will not be saved.
  • The list feature on the Library Account and the Library App are separate - they don't sync with each other. It's best to use the List feature on the service you use most - for some of us that's the web-based Library Account on your browser, for other it's the Library App on your mobile device.
  • Adding an item to a list is not the same as placing a hold. This is simply a way for you to manage items you are interested in. You still need to click 'Place hold' to request the item.
  • Librarians are not able to view your lists. They are private to your library account.

Getting the List feature on your Library Account (Web/Browser-based)

Our recommendation: Use this version if you prefer to find books by browsing the library catalogue (rather than starting with a particular title or author).

  1. Log in to your Library Account. You will need your library card number and pin/password for this.
  2. Click on 'My Lists' in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  3. In this area you can manage your lists. This includes setting up a new list (click on the notebook+ icon), deleting a list (click on the notebook- icon), or even moving items between lists (select the tick box for item(s) in a list, then click on the Actions drop-down box and move to another list you have set up).
  4. Once you have your list set up, you can browse the library catalogue, click on an item you like the look of, and add the item to your list by clicking 'Add to My Lists'.
  5. If you have multiple lists set up, it will ask you which list you would like to add this item to. You are also able to set a default list preference via the Preferences on your Library Account, under the Personal Information tab.

Getting the List feature on your Library App (Mobile App)

Our recommendation: This version is perfect if you spot titles of books out and about and you have a starting point (such as a title or author) for your search. It's also perfect if you like to use the 'scan barcode' feature on the Library App, which uses your mobile camera to scan the barcode of a book and check whether it's available in our library catalogue.

  1. Open the Library App on your mobile device and make sure you are logged in to your account. You will need your library card number and pin/password for this.
  2. To set up a list, use the Search bar to find something you like the look of (don't click on 'Search our catalogue' because this will take you to the Library Catalogue on the website, meaning that you will no longer be saving a book to your lists on the Library App).
  3. Click on an item from the search, the tap on the little bookmark icon in the top right hand corner.
  4. This will bring up a pop-up box where you can set the name of your new list. Once you have one list or a couple set up, you can choose which list you wish to save the item to. Tap 'Done'.
  5. To manage your lists, tap the menu button (3 horizontal lines) and then 'My lists'.
