Join local writer and editor Laura Williamson in conversation with Asher Emanuel, author of The Valley, for a thought-provoking lunchtime kōrero.
The culmination of over two years of field research and hundreds of hours of interviews, The Valley follows three Hutt Valley men through courtrooms, prison, hospital, rehab, boarding houses and welfare offices. Told largely in verbatim dialogue, The Valley is an up-close and personal account bringing the realities of the New Zealand criminal justice system to life through the voices of those who experience it first-hand.
It has been as described as one of the stand-out books of the year and the revelation of a major literary talent.
'A really impressive work of narrative-driven literary journalism' (Anna Rankin RNZ review)
