Chile Bird : The true story of a Royal Albatross by Diane Miller
Chile Bird : The true story of a Royal Albatross
Book

Chile Bird is based on the true story of a Northern Royal Albatross. Young Northern Royal Albatrosses leave their colony near Dunedin and head east towards the rich feeding grounds off the southern coast of South America. They don't touch land again until they return home to breed around 5-8 years later. The story follows the typical life cycle of the bird - but this story differs as the bird is rescued by a fisherman near Chile and is cared for by the children in a small fishing village (Duao). Chile Bird, as she is then known, returns to the life of a wild seabird, facing other hazards at sea, before returning home to find a partner and the next stage in her life.
